Chapter 8
The Omega, caught red-handed doing something wrong, was utterly humiliated, especially since it was the Alpha's own brother who caught him. Le Congyu just wanted to find a hole to crawl into, or even flee the hospital room right now, but when his gaze fell on the pale-faced Alpha on the bed, he didn't want to leave.
He was really worried and wanted to know how the Alpha's condition was.
An Heng had calmed down now. Though his gland no longer hurt, there was a strange, uncomfortable sensation, as if it was still coated with the Omega's saliva. He wanted to wipe it, but felt that gesture might make it seem like he was disgusted with the Omega, so he remained stiff and didn't move.
He looked up at the inquisitive Anyu, then at the worried-looking Le Congyu, and finally said to the latter, "Congyu, you should go back first."
Le Congyu didn't really want to leave, but it was obvious An Heng had something to discuss with his own brother. He could only manage a "Take care" before turning and leaving the hospital room.
Anyu found the Omega's reluctant, repeatedly glancing back behavior quite amusing. He casually sat down by the bed, picked up an apple and started peeling it as he casually asked, "Is that your Omega?"
"No." An Heng shook his head. "We're just friends."
Anyu kept his head down, his face, which resembled An Heng's by about 50%, had a contemplative expression. Yet even while lost in thought, his hand never slipped, and he soon peeled a whole apple, handing it to An Heng. "Just friends, and he'll... do that to you?"
These modern Omegas really are different.
"I couldn't control my pheromones, that's why he acted that way." An Heng said indifferently, as if Le Congyu's actions were just an accident, unrelated to any affection.
Anyu studied his expression for a while, not detecting any deception, so he reluctantly let the matter drop, but still couldn't resist adding a final comment, "Although you're an Alpha, you still need to be more careful, don't let others take advantage of you."
An Heng took a bite of the apple in his hand, looking at his brother in puzzlement. How could an adult Alpha like himself be taken advantage of? Did he look that helpless?
But to avoid worrying the other, An Heng obediently nodded, "Mm."
"Alright, now tell me, what happened to your arm?" Anyu crossed his arms, gaze fixed intently on the Alpha sitting on the bed. The latter took another bite of the apple, his cheeks slightly puffed out, looking as obedient as could be with his lowered brows.
After a while, An Heng finally said, "Heat wave, forgot to buy suppressants, so..."
"So you ended up biting and scratching yourself? Even your gland?" Anyu was both angry and concerned. Without realizing it, he leaned forward. "If you hadn't passed out and ended up in the hospital, and I hadn't happened to call, were you planning to hide this from us?"
"I'm sorry, I'll be more careful next time." An Heng quickly apologized, then suddenly remembered something else. "What about that Omega?"
Faced with this blatant topic change, Anyu angrily ruffled the Alpha's hair, giving him a small punishment. But with his messy "bird's nest" hair, the Alpha looked even more beautiful. "He went into heat, they've isolated him. Is he a friend of yours too?"
The emphasis on the last two words made it seem like there was some kind of unspeakable relationship beneath the surface.
The Alpha was growing up, time to have his own Omega, but he still wouldn't tell him. Anyu was quite saddened by this.
An Heng hesitated for a moment. He really had trouble defining his relationship with Chu Shu. In fact, it was precisely because he was so clear about what kind of Omega Chu Shu was that he had constantly reminded himself not to develop any feelings for the protagonist during the mission.
But undoubtedly, he and Chu Shu had been through a lot, to the extent that when Chu Shu had finally pushed him out, he had felt sadness as well.
"Not a friend."
"Just met a few times."
Anyu was obviously not very convinced. "But the nurse said the one who passed out was calling your name the whole time."
An Heng finished the last bite of the apple, tossing the core into the trash can. He took the paper towel from Anyu and carefully wiped his fingers clean, lowering his gaze in thought for a long time, then looked up at Anyu. "He seems to like the scent of my pheromones."
The protagonist shouldn't have fallen for the cannon fodder.
Everything he had done was according to the trajectory of that cannon fodder, Chu Shu hadn't fallen for the one in the book, but for him. The only reasonable explanation was that Chu Shu had fallen for his pheromones, which was why he had come chasing after him.
Ignoring the factor of appearance, An Heng felt this was the only option.
Anyu: "?"
How should he describe this?
He found it quite cute when his little brother said something so serious yet meaningless.

An Heng disliked the smell of disinfectant, and expressed a desire to be discharged. After Anyu communicated with the doctor and confirmed it was possible, he took his brother and left the hospital.
As soon as they reached the lobby, An Heng noticed Le Congyu sitting there. The Omega was worried, so he planned to sneak back to the Alpha's room later, but didn't expect to be caught in the act.
While Anyu went to get the car, An Heng had a brief chat with Le Congyu. "Don't worry, I'm fine."
"But you clearly..." Le Congyu hugged his backpack tightly. He didn't believe An Heng's words. If he was really fine, how could he have hurt and bitten himself, even fever in the rain.
An Heng could only say, "If I really had something wrong, the doctor wouldn't have agreed to discharge me, and my brother wouldn't have either."
Le Congyu seemed convinced, but still couldn't be at ease. He felt the Alpha really needed proper care right now, and he could undertake this task.
They walked down the hospital steps and stood by the road waiting for Anyu. Le Congyu tentatively asked, "An Heng, about that Omega..."
The initial December in Xinjing City was finally showing signs of approaching winter, the wind whistling as it swept across their faces. It was already 11 o'clock at night, but the hospital was still brightly lit, with the faint sound of ambulances mixed with mournful cries.
An Heng had already answered this question for Anyu, so he didn't need to think much before replying, "Not close."
Le Congyu wanted to ask more, but Anyu had already pulled up in the car. An Heng opened the back door, gesturing for Le Congyu to get in first, then followed.
Although he had acknowledged the friend relationship, An Heng really knew very little about this friend. He didn't even know where Le Congyu lived, and had never thought to ask.
Anyu asked for Le Congyu's address, intending to send the Omega home first, only to find that he and An Heng lived in the same community, just different buildings, about two to three hundred meters apart.
Anyu just dropped them off at the community entrance, then stepped on the gas and left.
"I'll walk you back." An Heng spoke up, after all, the Omega had been out for so long because of him, so he should properly see him home.
Le Congyu didn't refuse, he very much enjoyed every moment spent with the Alpha.
At this hour, there were hardly any people wandering around the community. Even the streetlights seemed unusually cold and lonely.
They soon reached the building where Le Congyu lived. During the wait for the elevator, An Heng decided to sincerely thank him, "Thank you for today, I'll treat you to a meal sometime."
As the floor numbers were slowly decreasing, Le Congyu suddenly felt he should be bolder, otherwise more and more Omegas like Chu Shu would appear around An Heng.
He looked directly into An Heng's eyes and asked, "Did kissing your gland in the hospital make you feel a bit better?"
Hearing this, An Heng was abruptly choked by the air, coughing violently. Vaguely, he still felt that cool, damp sensation creeping up the back of his neck. He wanted to reach up and check, but as soon as he lifted his hand, he quickly pulled it back.
If he now answered that he had indeed felt less pain at the time, would the Omega in front of him try to grab and kiss and lick him every time he had an attack?
An Heng felt this wouldn't do!
He said sternly, "It didn't help at all, don't do that again!"
Le Congyu narrowed his eyes dangerously, his intuition telling him the Alpha was lying.
Just then, the elevator arrived. An Heng gently pushed the Omega in, politely taking his leave, "Go back and rest early, see you tomorrow."
The self-proclaimed all-knowing Omega happily curved his lips, "See you tomorrow."
It wasn't until the elevator doors had fully closed that An Heng finally let out a sigh of relief, turning to head towards his own home.
The streetlights were just as cold and lonely as when he came.
By the next day, An Heng's gland was completely painless, and the red marks on the back of his neck had mostly faded. But what he didn't expect was to encounter Chu Shu at school.
The moment the Omega entered the classroom, his gaze was firmly fixed on An Heng, the intense stare impossible to ignore.
Until a book was placed in front of An Heng, causing the Omega to frown and retract his gaze.
An Heng was momentarily stunned, looking to the side at Cheng Chu. "Thank you."
"What's with the thanks?" Cheng Chu, seeing the Omega no longer staring at An Heng, withdrew his hand and when he looked at the Omega at the front, his gaze held a hint of hostility.
Chu Shu briefly introduced himself, and the class was quite enthusiastic towards this sweet Omega. However, when it came time for Chu Shu to find a seat, the atmosphere froze.
The only empty seat was next to Le Congyu's, and the teacher gestured for Chu Shu to sit there, but before he could even finish speaking, Le Congyu vehemently objected, "I don't want to sit with him."
Chu Shu wasn't angry, but smiled good-naturedly, trying to ease the awkward atmosphere. "Teacher, since he doesn't want to, I'll just sit somewhere else."
His gaze swept around the classroom, finally landing on An Heng. He seemed to have completely forgotten yesterday's unpleasantness, with a pitiful look from being rejected by Le Congyu, gently asking, "An Heng, can I sit with you?"
At these words, Lin Zhiyi's grinning mouth instantly fell, inwardly cursing: Another Omega coveting An Heng!
Cheng Chu unhesitatingly asserted his territory, "An Heng is my desk mate!"
Hearing this, Lin Zhiyi rolled his eyes, thinking: Coveting An Heng's Alpha! And a creepy crawling one at that!
The moment Chu Shu asked to be An Heng's desk mate, many in the class immediately turned cold, their previous enthusiasm for him dissipating. Chu Shu's life had been tumultuous, and he had learned to be wary and observant to survive. Now, he suddenly realized something - there were many people in the class coveting An Heng, not just Le Congyu.
He immediately made a choice, turning his pleading gaze to the teacher beside him.
In the end, it was Lin Zhiyi who sacrificed himself, afraid An Heng would be troubled again, proactively becoming Le Congyu's desk mate and vacating his original spot for Chu Shu.
This little drama was temporarily resolved.
But as soon as the bell rang and the teacher left the classroom, An Heng realized he was surrounded.
He looked up at the two Omegas beside him, and the fellow Alpha who had forcefully pushed the two Omegas aside. He hadn't even had a chance to say anything when his desk mate Alpha grabbed his wrist and roughly pulled him away, "An Heng, come with me to the bathroom."
An Heng: "?"
Seeing this, Lin Zhiyi directly hopped over two chairs, embracing An Heng's shoulder excitedly, "An Heng, I want to go to the bathroom with you too!"
An Heng: "..."
He really didn't want to go to the bathroom.
