Part 3
In less than half an hour, Bai He successfully entered the chess match. The old men playing the red chess pieces pushed him into a chair, "Come on, young man! This round depends on you to turn the tide! You have to hold your ground for me!"
Bai He surveyed the chess board, deftly capturing the opponent's pieces with his moves. Though his skills were not exceptional, the old man facing him, despite his advanced age, seemed quite sharp. He smiled, stroking his beard, "Not bad, kid, you've got me cornered. Let me think about this..."
After a few rounds of back-and-forth, Bai He ultimately lost the game.
"You're very skilled," Bai He said with a smile to the old man, "It's my loss."
"The humble one, being able to go a few rounds with old man Qin is already impressive. He's the best player here!"
The surrounding old men happily comforted him, some even chuckling, "It's been a while since we've seen such an intense chess game! You came at the right time this morning!"
Bai He politely got up from the seat, leaving under the watchful eyes of the old men. He didn't rush away, but sat on a nearby bench for a while. Just as he was about to get up, he noticed the old man he had just played against coming over and sitting down next to him.
Bai He looked at him and nodded politely, "Hello."
Old Mr. Qin also nodded and said with a smile, "Young man, your chess skills are not bad."
"My skills are not yet refined," Bai He smiled.
Old Mr. Qin shook his head, "You're being too humble. I only barely beat you. You're better than my grandson."
"Your grandson also plays chess?" Bai He asked instinctively.
Mentioning his grandson, the old man couldn't help but laugh. He stroked his chin, "He's about the same age as you, studying at the university nearby. I taught him chess, but that little guy didn't learn it well."
"Oh, by the way," the old man suddenly looked at Bai He, his gaze filled with admiration, "My grandson is a young alpha. You kids of this age must get along well. May I ask about your gender...?"
Bai He paused for a moment, then politely smiled, "I'm a beta."
"Beta is good." The old man's joy grew even greater. After a moment of silence, he asked again, "Have you fallen in love yet?"
Bai He: "..."
He shook his head, and the old man's smile was too hard to suppress. After a long while, he asked again, "So do you prefer alphas or omegas?"
Bai He thought to himself, don't I have the option of being a beta? After pondering for a moment, he shook his head at the old man, "I don't have plans to fall in love yet."
"I see..." The old man's expression turned disappointed.
Bai He: "..." This is too obvious...
He stood up, about to say goodbye, but the old man took out his phone, "Could you leave your contact information? My grandson is shy and doesn't have many friends. I think you two should get along well."
Bai He noticed the old man's expectant gaze.
Bai He: "..."
He couldn't bear to refuse this amiable old man, so he took out his phone and left his contact information.
Leaving the park, Bai He returned to his rental house, changed his clothes, and went to school with books in hand for the third and fourth classes.
On the way, he passed by the business school and noticed many people looking at him, not just his imagination. Their gazes were either blatantly obvious or sneakily furtive, either way making Bai He quite uncomfortable. As he swept his gaze over them, some of the guilty parties averted their eyes, while others continued to stare and scrutinize him unabashedly. Among them, Bai He spotted the alpha who had stood in front of him in the queue to collect new books.
He understood now. Collecting his gaze, he continued walking towards the teaching building without a ripple.
So that alpha was not from the School of Ideology, but from the Business School, probably just taking an ideology course as an elective. The first in the Business School was someone called Qin Yao, so it couldn't be that alpha.
In a good mood, Bai He listened attentively to the two classes. After class, just as he was about to leave the classroom, someone blocked his path - a girl.
"Are you Bai He?" The girl stood with her hands on her hips, her expression unpleasant. "My boyfriend said you're very arrogant. I don't think you're anything special either."
The remaining students in the classroom cast curious, eavesdropping gazes.
The impartial Bai He: "..."
"What's the matter?" Bai He asked in a flat tone.
"What, can't I come find you? Do you think you're so great?" The girl snorted. "You're a beta, aren't you?"
Bai He swept a glance at her and bypassed her, heading for the exit.
"Hey!" The ignored girl alpha angrily followed behind him, shouting loudly, "Do you have any manners? I'm talking to you!"
Bai He stopped, turning to face the girl who had almost collided with him, and met her gaze. "Are you some rare species? Why should I listen to you talk?"
There it was, the superior scolding method! The surrounding secret onlookers covered their mouths to suppress their urge to cheer out loud.
"You—!" The girl alpha gritted her teeth in anger, but Bai He had no mood to waste time on her. He still had to go back and summarize his notes.
Turning around, he quickly left, his normal walking speed already a brisk pace for his weak physical condition. In a less than cheerful mood, he walked with his head down, counting the floor tiles.
Fifty-six, fifty-seven, fifty-eight, fifty-
He suddenly bumped into someone. Bai He stumbled back, but was quickly steadied by the person in front of him, leaning forward into their embrace.
Hard and unyielding, the impact hurt. Straightening up, Bai He felt a bit dizzy, his voice a bit hoarse, "Sorry, thanks..."
"You should watch where you're going, fellow student," a voice with a smile, very familiar.
Bai He looked up and recognized Qin Yao. He paused for two seconds, "I was watching."
It was you who suddenly appeared, but he swallowed those words back into his stomach. Quietly looking at the other for a while, he took out his phone, "Transfer the money?"
Qin Yao was taken aback for a moment, then smiled, "You still remember this?"
Bai He nodded, "I ruined your clothes."
Qin Yao didn't make any excuses, taking out his phone and bringing up the payment code, "I forgot how much the clothes cost. Just transfer what you think is right."
Bai He fell silent for a few seconds, then lowered his head and tapped a few times on his phone before putting it away, "It's done. Goodbye."
With that, he walked around Qin Yao and left. The alpha turned and watched Bai He's retreating back, then looked down at his phone, 2000 had been transferred.
Just as he was about to put away his phone, a message from his grandfather popped up: [This kid is not bad, he's a beta. Get to know him, start as friends first.]
It also included a friend recommendation.
Qin Yao was amused by the old man's antics. This was the fourth "friend" the old man had recommended to him. Qin Yao understood the old man's little schemes. He was about to send a message to make an excuse, but then noticed the profile picture on the friend recommendation was familiar.
Qin Yao squinted, exiting the chat to find the transfer record, the profile picture and ID...
Exactly the same, a white feather avatar, ID name: "Death".
Long Sleep.
Qin Yao went back to the chat with his grandfather, staring at Bai He's friend profile for a while, and on a whim, he clicked to add.
He suddenly remembered the recent transfer, and realized he should have let the other party add him first before transferring...
He let out a light chuckle, pocketed his phone, and the documents being hurriedly brought over by Zhang Wenyi, "Here are the internship application forms for your father's company, one for you and one for me."
"Whose father?" Qin Yao smiled.
"Your father." Zhang Wenyi grinned, "My uncle."
As Zhang Wenyi collected the forms, he continued chatting, "By the way, have you seen the latest news? It's quite explosive, didn't expect the first in the School of Ideology to be so sharp-tongued, he really roasted Zhang Anjing."
"Who?" Qin Yao raised his brow.
"Zhang Anjing, that arrogant alpha in our school, his pheromone smells like shrimp powder. I don't know what his girlfriend sees in him," Zhang Wenyi babbled on, then added, "Oh right, I heard his girlfriend is also from the School of Ideology. Honestly, I think alpha-alpha relationships are just asking for trouble. The omega department next door isn't bad, why must they be with those stinky alphas."
Qin Yao smiled at Zhang Wenyi, who quickly blinked his eyes, "Of course, not all alphas are stinky, like our Qin ge, a noble brandy, so fragrant!"
Qin Yao wasn't concerned about that. With his hands in his pockets, he redirected Zhang Wenyi, "I'm asking you, who roasted Zhang Anjing?"
Zhang Wenyi paused, blinking, "Oh, it was Bai He, the only beta in the whole school, the first in the School of Ideology."
