Chapter 29: Unexpected Heat
Gu Qinglan had no idea why his heat suddenly flared up. The inhibitors his younger brother gave him had been working well, so he had let his guard down. He hadn’t expected the onset of his heat to come early, and he didn’t have any inhibitors with him.
These past few days, due to issues with the wine cellar, Mr. Yan was attending a wine auction in this opulent building. Following protocol, Gu Qinglan could only wait in the lobby.
Would he have time to go home and grab an inhibitor? He pulled out his phone and called Gu Yulan, but there was no answer. Gu Yulan wasn’t allowed to carry his phone while in the lab. Panicked, Gu Qinglan sent a message asking for help, along with his location.
*Please let my brother see this message soon,* he prayed.
The scent of mint pheromones quickly spread. Gu Qinglan rushed outside, noticing several Alphas had caught the scent and were now staring at him.
Mr. Yan's car was parked in the underground garage. Gu Qinglan slipped into it and locked the door.
Suddenly, he realized hiding in the car was a bad idea; Mr. Yan would find him. Gu Qinglan got out, walking through the empty parking lot for five minutes before hiding behind the safety door in the lowest-level fire escape. Thanks to his father’s strong willpower, his self-control as an Omega was exceptional.
This place was secluded. No one would pass by all day. The motion sensor lights soon went out, leaving the space pitch dark. Gu Qinglan calmed himself, pulled a mint candy from his pocket, and popped it into his mouth, trying to focus. He sent Mr. Yan a message asking for leave.
He sighed to himself. *If only I carried inhibitors as often as I carry candy.* Being a foodie really messed things up!
That drowning, helpless feeling returned. His body felt hot and heavy, and his consciousness was becoming overwhelmed by his physical urges. *Damn it,* he cursed. *Why does this always happen?*
Based on his experience, the initial onset of heat would last about two hours. If he could endure those two hours, he’d have enough time to take medicine and recover. He just needed to hold on.
Time crawled by. The sweltering air soaked through his thin clothes. He had already removed his jacket. *There shouldn't be any cameras here, right?*
Gu Qinglan unbuttoned several buttons on his undershirt, his heavy breathing echoing throughout the quiet space. He bit his already flushed lips, gripping the cold metal railing tightly and pressing his burning cheek against it, trying to ease the pain. His eyelashes fluttered, his ears turned crimson, and his body felt like water—soft, boneless. A sticky liquid began to drip down his thighs, soaking his trousers. The unbearable emptiness inside him begged to be filled. *Dammit, why me? Why do I have to be an Omega...*
Fortunately, he had only differentiated as an Omega at 26, which gave him the mental resilience to endure these heat cycles. He couldn’t imagine how those who differentiated as teenagers dealt with it.
He wished he could just pass out, but the overwhelming urge took control of his body and mind. Every cell was no longer his own, all consumed by the need to be claimed and possessed. It was as if he were being controlled by a parasite. No matter how much he hated it, when the desire reached its peak, there was no room for other emotions, only the burning need.
Mr. Yan left the auction as soon as he received Gu Qinglan’s message. He had a feeling something was wrong.
Along the way, he occasionally caught a faint scent of mint. Though it had dissipated, traces of an Omega's pheromones lingered in the air.
Mr. Yan knew exactly who the minty scent belonged to. He called Gu Qinglan, but the call was rejected.
Gu Qinglan clenched his phone. For whatever reason, he didn’t want Mr. Yan to see him in such a pitiful state.
*Please, Mr. Yan, just leave.*
When Mr. Yan used his fingerprint to unlock his car, he was immediately hit by the strong scent of mint—an Omega's pheromones.
He quickly deduced that Gu Qinglan was hiding somewhere nearby, trying to ride out his heat. His brows furrowed: *This reckless little tiger.*
Gu Qinglan’s mind was a chaotic mess. The darkness around him seemed to be filled with countless tendrils, wrapping around him. The physical torment and mental turmoil had reduced him to tears without him even realizing it.
*I’m about to pass out... Please, let me faint already...*
"Gu Qinglan."
The voice sounded like a gunshot, sharply jolting Gu Qinglan out of his fog. Mr. Yan’s hand was already on his cheek. Gu Qinglan clung tightly to the railings, his cat-like eyes gazing up at him, but his face tilted toward Mr. Yan’s hand, as if seeking comfort. "Mr. Yan... What's wrong?" His flushed lips trembled, as if inviting someone in.
Mr. Yan felt his own mind losing focus. When he had opened the safety door, the overwhelming scent of mint nearly made him surrender. Now, with Gu Qinglan acting this way, it was a battle between his heart and his instincts.
"This place is too dirty. Hang in there a little longer, okay?" Mr. Yan forced himself to stay clear-headed, taking off his jacket and wrapping it around Gu Qinglan before lifting him up.
Gu Qinglan wrapped his arms around Mr. Yan's waist, his legs restless, seeking some form of comfort. He caught a whiff of Mr. Yan’s violet and fine wine scent, which made him feel unbearably itchy inside. Frowning, he whimpered and pressed as close to Mr. Yan as he could. The walk back to the car felt like the longest, most torturous moment of Mr. Yan’s life.
"Be good," Mr. Yan murmured, seeing the tears welling in Gu Qinglan’s eyes. He almost wanted to take him right then and there.
The car had no driver’s seat. The two rows of chairs faced each other and could automatically convert into a spacious bed. However, Mr. Yan couldn’t wait even a few seconds. The minty pheromones were making him lose control. He placed Gu Qinglan on the seat, and Gu Qinglan immediately clung to his neck. "Yan..."
There was no time for formalities. Mr. Yan liked it that way. Their lips met in a deep, heated kiss, stirring even more uncontrollable desire in Gu Qinglan. His mouth was invaded, plundered, and dominated. The sound of their heavy breathing filled the car, each gasp more suggestive than the last. Gu Qinglan’s heart raced, his ears turned red, and his limbs went numb. The scent of wine and mint swirled together in the confined space, while soft light poured in from the car’s ceiling.
It was the kind of kiss lovers shared, passionate and intense, but unable to quell the emptiness inside.
The imbalance of hormones within Gu Qinglan’s body tormented him. He clutched Mr. Yan’s shirt, tears glistening in his eyes as he looked up at him. His chin was lifted, his gaze dazed and desperate. As an Omega, it was impossible to resist the urge for an Alpha, especially one as powerful as Mr. Yan. His pheromones were overwhelmingly pure, and his mental strength was so oppressive that Gu Qinglan’s body instinctively submitted. Every cell in his body was invaded by the scent of violet and wine, leaving no room for rational thought.
