His Pheromone Smells Like Catnip Chapter 49

 Chapter 49

When Bai He woke up, the sky outside had just begun to lighten. He reached for his phone, and the sudden brightness made him instinctively close his eyes.

Six o’clock.

He put down his phone and closed his eyes again, getting out of bed only after a moment.

He hadn’t forgotten what happened last night. Qin Yao had brought him back, and then left.

While brushing his teeth, Bai He looked at himself in the mirror.

He didn’t look tired. Instead, there was a dazed look unique to early morning. His movements slowed as he brushed his teeth, and he lowered his head to clean the foam from his mouth.

After wiping his face with a towel, he felt much more awake. Bai He stared at himself in the mirror once again.

His pajamas hung loosely on his body. His skin was very fair—perhaps due to the lighting—but overall, he looked in good condition.

After being brought back last night, he had indeed been drunk. Yet, somehow, he managed to wash up and go to bed early. Because he slept early, he woke up early.

That one drink still left him feeling a little dizzy. Bai He rubbed his temples and lowered his gaze, lost in thought.

He didn’t forget what had happened. Last night, Qin Yao had brought him back, said a few words, and then really left his dorm room.

Bai He thought about it. He could have called a cab last night, but he didn’t. From another perspective, Qin Yao could have chosen not to take the risk of driving under the influence, but he still did, and after dropping him off, left without lingering.

Just as Qin Yao had said—very honest.

Bai He felt quite good about it. Because he didn’t pay attention to the mirror, he didn’t notice the faint, almost imperceptible smile on his face.

...

A few days passed, and the end of the semester approached. For students, the busiest time was upon them, and Bai He was no exception. He spent the entire week busy with studying and exams.

After finishing his last exam on Friday, he returned to his dorm in the evening and sent the fourth version of the proposal he’d been working on to his club's group leader.

It was already the fourth version. Since the first draft, it had been revised four times. Bai He had spent a lot of time researching, consulting the club leader and other members, and expending great effort to finally get it to a satisfactory state.

After the compressed file was received, the leader sent back a message: “Thanks for your hard work.”

Only then did Bai He feel relaxed. He got up to get a glass of water, returned to his desk, and just as he was about to sit down, his vision suddenly blurred for a moment, and a ringing sound echoed in his ears, only to disappear just as quickly, leaving him wondering if it had even happened.

Bai He furrowed his brows. He felt a bit of tightness in his chest, and a restless feeling surged through his body.

This wasn’t the first time he had experienced such symptoms. In fact, there had been signs two days ago, but he had been so busy that he chalked it up to not getting enough rest and didn’t think much of it.

But now it seemed more serious. His heart pounded in his chest as if it were about to leap out, even though he had just had some water, he felt thirsty again.

Something was wrong. Bai He’s first thought was that it might be his heat cycle.

He had been so busy that he’d forgotten such an important thing. According to the doctor’s advice, he should be injecting a suppressant now.

At the hospital last time, the doctor had given him enough suppressants. Bai He found one and injected himself according to the instructions. To be safe, he also applied a blocker patch to the back of his neck.

After doing all this, he finally fell asleep.

The next morning, Bai He woke up feeling hot and weak. He sat on his bed, as he usually did, but this time, he sat for a long time, not wanting to move.

Bai He wasn’t someone who typically lazed in bed, but at that moment, he felt completely drained. The suppressant had controlled his heat, but the accompanying symptoms—like lethargy, fever, and fatigue—would linger for a few days. He swallowed and forced himself to get up and drink some water.

He stayed in the dorm all day. Fortunately, it was the end of the semester, and there wasn’t much left to do. The only thing still on his agenda was the club’s dinner gathering tomorrow, where they would also discuss recent tasks.

There was no way Bai He could attend. He messaged the group leader, who quickly approved his absence.

A few seconds later, a message from Xia Tian popped up.

Tian Tian Xiaobao: [Bai He-ge, do you have enough suppressants? Do you need me to help you buy more?]

Tian Tian Xiaobao: [Don’t go out for the next couple of days. Stay in the dorm and rest well. If you need food, just let me know.]

Tian Tian Xiaobao: [If you need anything, just message me anytime.]

Bai He lay in his bed, reading Xia Tian’s messages. Too tired to type, he sent a voice message to thank him.

As he exited the chat, he noticed Xia Tian’s screen name and realized he still hadn’t updated his nickname.

Some of his contacts had updated nicknames, while others hadn’t. Everyone in Jinyu’s Family had been updated. Back then, Bai He had wanted to quickly familiarize himself with everyone, so he had added them as friends and immediately updated their nicknames.

Some people, like Xia Tian, he occasionally forgot to update.

Bai He scrolled through his contacts absentmindedly until he saw the familiar doodle of a cat paw.

Insomniac, Qin Yao.

Oh right, he had never updated Qin Yao’s nickname either. Bai He’s fingers paused as he stared at the uniquely drawn cat paw icon and couldn’t help but smile.

In truth, it didn’t really matter whether he updated Qin Yao’s nickname. That cat paw icon had left a deep impression on him.

And besides, a cat paw—it suited Qin Yao, that big cat, perfectly.

Bai He must have been a bit muddled. A fire burned in his chest, his head was foggy, and even his eyes felt a bit dazed.

Heat wasn’t exactly a comfortable experience. This heavy feeling in his head was like having a fever, but not quite the same.

During heat, it was easy to let your mind wander. The glands at the back of his neck pulsed with heat, and he recalled a description from something he had read.

Something about how an Omega’s glands were like a secondary sx organ—fragile and easily stimulated.

Bai He didn’t let himself dwell on the strange sensations from his glands. He understood that in the ABO world, the various feelings brought on by the glands were normal physiological responses.

But what he didn’t understand was why his mind was wandering so much.

He felt like something was wrong with him.

To stop himself from thinking about nonsense, Bai He decided to sleep.

He buried his face in the pillow, cutting off his breath. After a while, he turned his head to breathe fresh air, then rolled over and pulled the blanket over himself. In the process, his phone fell to the floor.

Bai He didn’t feel like bending down to pick it up. Just as he was about to ignore it, the phone suddenly buzzed once, then again.

Bai He took a deep breath and bent down to retrieve his phone, only to find that the chat was still open with Qin Yao—and Qin Yao was messaging him.

On closer inspection, it wasn’t Qin Yao who had messaged first. Bai He must have accidentally sent a string of random characters when he was tossing and turning.

Bai He: “……….”

Insomniac: [?]

Insomniac: [What’s up, darling?]

Insomniac: [Does little Bai baby need something from me?]

Insomniac: [Did you accidentally press something?]

Insomniac: [Not talking? Should I come knock on your dorm door then?~]

The messages stopped there. Bai He immediately tensed up. Sure enough, within a few seconds, a gentle knock sounded at the door—not too fast, not too slow.

Bai He’s heart clenched instinctively.

His hand, resting on the blanket, slowly curled up, then relaxed. After a moment, he got up and opened the dorm door.

Qin Yao was wearing a black turtleneck sweater. When the door opened, his expression froze for a moment, and his gaze slowly dropped to meet Bai He’s slightly reddened eyes. His voice softened unintentionally: “Were you resting?”

Bai He nodded, not saying anything, just looking at Qin Yao.

The two stood in silent eye contact, and an unspoken tension gradually filled the air.

Qin Yao’s eyes traced over Bai He’s features, his voice gentle: “So… are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

Bai He didn’t reply. After a long pause, he lowered his gaze, reached out, and grabbed Qin Yao’s sleeve, pulling him into the room without room for rejection.

The door closed with a soft thud. The room was dark, the curtains drawn tightly. Qin Yao stood by the door, looking down at Bai He, who was standing so close.

Bai He’s hands were on Qin Yao’s sweater, carefully picking at the fine cat hairs on it, expressionless yet meticulous.

His voice was calm, but there was a hint of bewitchment: “Why are there so many hairs?”

Qin Yao squinted, his hand instinctively resting on Bai He’s waist. Seeing no rejection, he became bolder, his voice lowering: “You know, cats shed. Can’t be helped.”

Bai He continued picking off the soft cat hairs one by one, his eyelashes fluttering as he breathed slowly. If it weren’t for the increasingly thick scent of Omega pheromones in the air, the two of them might have stayed like that for a long time.

Qin Yao couldn’t take it anymore. His eyes reddened as he watched Bai He pluck the last cat hair. At such close range, Bai He slowly raised his head, their noses brushing, barely touching. It seemed like just a little more, and their lips would meet.

Their breaths mingled, heat rising between them. Bai He’s eyelashes trembled, and he tilted his head back slightly, his voice soft: “Qin Yao, I gave you a chance.”

Qin Yao’s breathing became chaotic.

Bai He’s words were like a signal, making Qin Yao, who had been holding back, suddenly realize what was happening.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Qin Yao’s arm tightened around Bai He’s waist, and his other hand cupped the back of Bai He’s head, pulling him in for a kiss.

Their lips and teeth intertwined, like sucking on jelly. Qin Yao aggressively pried open Bai He’s lips, his tongue entering and exploring. The wet sounds of their kiss filled the quiet, dark room, making Bai He’s scalp tingle. After several minutes, Qin Yao finally let him go. Bai He had barely caught his breath before Qin Yao kissed him again.

In his mouth, on his tongue, their saliva mixed, pheromones blending. Bai He’s head felt dizzy. His legs gave out, and Qin Yao, holding him by the waist, carried him to the bed in just a few steps.

Qin Yao fell onto the bed with him, and immediately, Bai He’s lips were sealed again.

He didn’t know how long they kissed. It was quiet, yet the experience was beyond anything Bai He had ever felt before, making him feel as though he were floating on clouds.

He felt weak, noticing the changes in Qin Yao’s body. With difficulty, he raised a hand to push against Qin Yao’s shoulder.

It didn’t work, and Qin Yao only seemed to grow more intense.

In the brief pauses where Bai He tried to catch his breath, he struggled to keep up with the kiss. Realizing the situation was getting out of control, Bai He used all his strength to push Qin Yao away, flipping over to sit on Qin Yao’s abdomen. His breathing was still uneven, and his lips glistened as he raised both hands to cover Qin Yao’s mouth: “…Wait… calm down…”

His clothes were a mess, with two buttons undone at the collar, revealing a slender neck and a hint of collarbone below. Qin Yao’s gaze was scorching, his throat bobbing. The next moment, Bai He felt something wet against his palm.

His heart trembled, and he quickly pulled his hand back. In an instant, Qin Yao flipped them over, pinning Bai He beneath him, pressing himself between Bai He’s legs, and burying his face in Bai He’s neck, kissing the heated glands there.

Bai He’s body tensed. His hand rested on Qin Yao’s chest, rising and falling with his breathing.

Neither of them moved any further.

After a long while, Bai He turned his head away, his face already flushed in the darkness.

“Can I bite?”

Qin Yao continued to kiss Bai He’s glands softly, persistent but patient, asking again: “Can I? Baby…”

Bai He’s breathing was completely erratic. He used all his strength to grab Qin Yao’s sweater, but didn’t say a word. Instead, he tilted his head slightly, exposing his glands.

Qin Yao’s eyes were filled with barely restrained desire. One hand gently caressed Bai He’s waist as he buried his head in Bai He’s neck, kissing the glands reverently, as if treasuring the person in his arms.

His canines pierced the glands, and Bai He couldn’t help but tremble. Qin Yao’s hand soothed him, rubbing his body as Alpha pheromones flooded into Bai He. It felt as though Bai He were being submerged in warm water, as if he would evaporate at any moment.

The marking process was long, and during it, Bai He’s mind was filled with thoughts he had never considered before.

Embarrassed, he bit his lip, groping for Qin Yao’s arm. His voice trembled: “…Is it… not finished yet?”

After a while longer, the heat in his neck faded. Bai He felt Qin Yao lick the spot twice.

Bai He’s entire body stiffened.

Qin Yao propped himself up, his slit-pupil eyes locking onto Bai He’s. After a long moment, he leaned down and kissed Bai He’s eyelid, his voice hoarse with a laugh: “Darling, you taste like catnip.”

Bai He blinked, then realized what was happening. He suddenly noticed Qin Yao’s wandering hand and quickly raised his own to stop him.

“What are you doing?!”

Qin Yao looked up, feigning innocence: “I’m helping you.”

“…No need.” Bai He tried to sit up but lacked the strength, collapsing back down. His face burned, and he closed his eyes, turning his head away: “I don’t need your help…”

Suddenly, he recalled that one night, that time he thought had been a dream…

“Back then…” Qin Yao started to speak.

“Shut up!” Bai He interrupted him.

“Okay.”

“…”

They fell into silence. Bai He felt strangely uneasy. He turned his head back to look at Qin Yao, who had been staring deeply at him the entire time.

Actually, Qin Yao’s situation was far more urgent than Bai He’s. The hardness pressing against Bai He startled him. He closed his eyes, murmuring, “What are you going to do about it?”

“What can I do?” Qin Yao chuckled softly, his nose brushing against Bai He’s. “I can’t go out in this state. It’d be indecent. Can I use your bathroom?”

Bai He’s eyelashes fluttered: “Yeah.”

“Good boy.” Qin Yao kissed Bai He’s lips, making an audibly embarrassing “pop” sound. Bai He turned his head away, listening to Qin Yao walk to the bathroom.

The sound of running water filled the room, along with Qin Yao’s stifled, barely contained moans.

Bai He felt his body heat up again. He wrapped himself in the blanket, burying his head, and reached up to touch his glands. They were hot, and just a light touch sent a shiver through him. There, a circle of teeth marks had formed.
